Dan’s Daily: Penguins Win, Latest on Kane, Could Flyers-Giroux Breakup?

It’s been at least a week since news of Evander Kane centered a headline. The Pittsburgh Penguins were flying on Tuesday night and they did it with the ESPN theme song behind them. The team took care of all of the housekeeping, including placing Evgeni Malkin on LTIR and signing Brian Boyle. And here’s the story to put in your back pocket–could the Philadelphia Flyers and Claude Giroux breakup?

Nick Suzuki got PAID well before his time, and Brady Tkachuk still has not been paid.

I can’t wait for an Evander Kane resolution on the mountain of hints and allegations. Who’ll be my role model, now that my role model is gone? (Paul Simon reference).

San Jose: Nick Kypreos reports he’s hearing the NHL is leaning towards suspending Kane.

Pittsburgh: Penguins win, Penguins win, Penguins win. No stars, no problem. The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2.

Danton Heinen was pretty good on Tuesday. He scored the first goal of the NHL season, and Brian Boyle scored the second.

PHN+: Game analysis–Three Stars and the Penguins takeaways as the newbies, plus Dominik Simon, were on their game.

NHL News & National Hockey Now

NYI: Most of the Hockey Now writers roundtabled the coming NHL season, including this goofy scribe. Who will win the Stanley Cup, the Hart Trophy, and will the Pittsburgh Penguins make the playoffs?

Barring last-minute problems (we’ve had a few!), Toronto Hockey Now, Montreal Hockey Now and Calgary Hockey Now launch today!

Follow them on Twitter: Toronto …. Montreal …. Calgary

Vegas: The Seattle Kraken put up a good fight in their first-ever game. They trailed 3-0 but rallied to tie it, before a controversial goal sunk the ship. Vegas wins 4-3.

TSN: The Insiders touched on Vitaly Kravtsov and the New York Rangers looking for a partner on the NHL trade dance floor, and could the Philadelphia Flyers and Claude Giroux breakout after the season?

Ottawa Sun: The Ottawa Senators and RFA Brady Tkachuk are on the eve of the regular season, BUT…no closer to a deal.

Sportsnet: The Montreal Canadiens paid Nick Suzuki. And I mean big-time paycheck. The third-year player got nearly $8 million for eight seasons.

Vancouver: A day after we thought Alex Chiasson didn’t make the Canucks, they signed the big grinder and waived Zack MacEwen.

Florida: Fitting–it was 28-years ago the Florida Panthers made their NHL debut…and Scott Mellanby famously killed a rate in the locker room

And to finish off the Daily…some NHL trade chatter, or rather lack thereof…

The Athletic: Jack Eichel. Some teams are warming to the idea of Eichel’s elective surgery. But what teams are left in the sweepstakes?
