Penguins-Devils: Prospect Camp Day 2, Player Analysis (PHN+)

Pittsburgh Penguins Prospect Challenge

The Pittsburgh Penguins and tournament team coach Mike Vellucci tinkered with their lines for Day 2 and Game 2 of the Prospects Challenge at the Harbor Center. The Penguins will face the New Jersey Devils prospects team without first overall pick Jack Hughes. No one will remember the final score of the game, but the organization will keep the measurement of performances and effort for weeks.

No pressure, though New Jersey’s decision to scratch Hughes will make a few defensemen breath easier.

Vellucci stacked his top line for Game 2. Nathan Legare, the Penguins 2019 third-round pick with a high ceiling will skate on the right side with Sam Lafferty at center and first-round pick Sam Poulin on the left-wing.

Alex D’Orio, 20, will start in goal instead of Emil Larmi. D’Orio was an undrafted free agent and former teammate of Legare at Biae-Comeau Drakkar in the QMJHL. D’Orio’s numbers have not been stellar in the Q, but not many goalies can boast positive stats in a league built on offensive hockey.

PHN will not have a running blog today–instead, we will analyze performances after each period. That should be easier to read, and you won’t need to refresh every 60 seconds to keep up.
