Penguins Trade Analysis: Dubas Gambles; Bemstrom Scouting Report (+)
As the Pittsburgh Penguins eeked and creaked their way to a 1-1 first period against the Montreal Canadiens, president of hockey operations/GM Kyle Dubas pulled a small Penguins trade that could be a steal, or it could be quite costly. Dubas rolled the dice on a conditional draft pick that might further deplete the draft stock.
Thursday evening, the Penguins traded Alex Nylander and a conditional sixth-rounder to the Columbus Blue Jackets for 24-year-old Swedish right-winger Emil Bemstrom.

On the plus side of the trade, the Penguins have given Nylander multiple chances to crack the NHL roster since they acquired him for Sam Lafferty on Jan. 5, 2022. Despite Nylander’s belief that he belonged, the organization disagreed, and Nylander’s multiple opportunities in training camp, preseason, and shorter samples in the last two regular seasons have not produced enough tangible results.
