Watch: Penguins’ John Ludvig Fights Much Larger Michael McCarron

The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Nashville Predators 3-2 at Bridgestone Arena Tuesday, but they might be finding an element they haven’t had as part of their defense corps in several years with John Ludvig.

Ludvig, 23, was claimed off waivers on the eve of the regular season from the Florida Panthers.

The Penguins were not happy with a blown call in overtime, which they felt changed the game as Filip Forsberg scored the winner on the resulting breakaway.

After delivering a couple of hits that removed larger players from the puck or otherwise dropped them to the ice, the defenseman was given the tap. Ludvig foght the 6-foot-6, 232-pound Michael McCarron.

Ludvig is not small. He’s 6-foot-1, 213 pounds but gave up 20 pounds and five inches to McCarron. Ludvig not only acquitted himself well, he probably won the fight.

Ludvig also scored his first NHL point Tuesday, notching an assist.
