Pittsburgh Penguins Evgeni Malkin goal

Evgeni Malkin has scored a lot of goals for the Pittsburgh Penguins in his career, but not many like his piggybank deposit on Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres.

Malkin’s goal was unlike any he’s scored before.

Penguins defenseman Ryan Graves blasted a hard shot that sailed over the net and caromed to the right-wing corner. From some 35 or 40 feet away, Malkin shoveled a perfect backhand at Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen as the netminder glided back into position to the post.

Malkin’s rising backhand, with enough muster to beat the goalie, hit the numbers on the back of Luukonen’s jersey and landed in the net. It was Malkin’s eighth goal in 13 games this season and the 479th of his career.

The goal gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead with just under one minute remaining in the first period.

And here is the backside replay.
