Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin, who missed practice Wednesday because he was ill, was at the team’s optional morning skate Thursday at PPG Paints Arena.

Winger Matt Nieto, who was given a maintenance day Wednesday, also skated Thursday morning.

Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said after the skate that both are available for Thursday night’s game against the New Jersey Devils. Sullivan also confirmed that Tristan Jarry will start in goal.

Those who participated in the Penguins morning skate were forwards Malkin, Nieto, Jeff Carter and Vinnie Hinostroza; defensemen Ryan Shea, Chad Ruhwewdel and P.O Joseph; and and goalies Jarry, Magnus Hellberg and Alex Nedeljkovic.

Nedeljkovic, who is eligible to come off IR on Sunday, also worked out on the ice with goalie coach Andy Chiodo before the rest of the team.
