Is Robo-Penguins Logo Coming Back on Retro Jersey?

Published

Call me a sucker for the Pittsburgh Penguins third jerseys with the diagonal lettering. I loved them then. Love them now. However, NHL teams are unveiling a third consecutive retro jersey for the 2022-23 NHL season.

Cue the Robo-Penguins.

Chris Creamer of SportsLogo.net has spotted a new line of merchandise on Fanatics called the “Special Edition” line. However, Fanatics has pulled the images and products under the Special Addition line. They are no longer available, but we have images that the Sportslogos.net website was able to snag from sharp Twitter users.

In the hours after the initial post, Fanatics pulled the t-shirts. Bottom left corner– Robo – Penguins logo:

I know many of you have been clamoring for that Penguins’ retro image. And, if the NHL wanted to build hype, this is a pretty slick way to do it. Use a league partner, claim an oops, build suspense, then announce.

Pittsburgh Penguins organization cornerstone, and former owner, Mario Lemieux wore all three logos as a player — the skating Penguins, the diagonal lettering, and the Robo Penguins bird.

Others call it the pigeon logo.

And now Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang may wear all three.

Additional logos you may enjoy are the San Jose Sharks might go to the Golden Seals’ colors and script. The New York Islanders may go back to the Gorton Fisherman, the Colorado Avalance to the Rockies (which became the New Jersey Devils), and the Anaheim Ducks might return to the Disney logo.

Some of us may not enjoy the Ducks logo. The Flying V was clearly interference on several players and should have been very easy to defend.

Not every Sportslogos is sure the NHL teams will go to the above logos. We wait and see…
